What is the purpose of the AYWB?
The purpose of AgriYouth Without Borders is to advocate for equal youth participation and representation in agriculture and rural development. It focuses on issues like climate change, land access, funding, market access, infrastructure, technology adoption, policy, labor shortages, social and cultural barriers, and support services. By focusing on these areas, AgriYouth without Borders aims to empower young people to play a leading role in agricultural development and rural progress.
Who can join the council?
Individuals between the ages of 16-40 can become members of the council. Those above 40 are welcome to join, yet the benefits and contributions of those individuals will differ to that of young people.
What are the benefits of joining the AYWB?
You will have the support of a robust network of field experts, other Agripreneurs and many more partners who may empower your entrepreneurial journey and make you successful . You will also be up to date with many policy changes in agriculture and how they can help your business.
How do I apply to become a member?
Send us and email with your details and tell us a bit about your status and that of your business if applicable and we may take it from there.
Does the council offer financial support to young farmers?
No, the council does not offer financial support. It does however assists in facilitating some of the processes by bringing stakeholders together with farmers.
What kind of events does the council organize?
Conference, forums, training sessions, farmers day etc.
How does the council promote sustainable farming practices?
The council supports the SDG 2 on Climate Action. This goal will be achieved through information sharing and training of members to adopt climate-smart agricultural practices. Through partnerships with companies that are striving towards this goal. These will include vermiculture, the use of solar systems, and the clustering of farmers for logistics to reduce carbon emissions.
How can the council help with market access?
By collaborating with retailers, farm markets, and individuals in charge of buying produce to understand policies that are currently limiting farmer’s access to the market. Farmers will be assisted through the processes of compliance (not with monetary value, unless otherwise) to ensure they can sell their produce to the market.
Does the council offer training or educational programs?
Yes. This will be done either through partnerships or self-tailored programs by the council to tackle different needs.
Can urban farmers join the council?
Yes. The council welcomes anyone with any farming interests or businesses from all scientific disciplines and any other background.
How does the council differ from other councils that already exist?
AYWB is a youth council made for young people by young people. We are committed to serving the needs of young farmers with their involvement in every activity. The council values transparency and inclusivity of its members. This will ensure members are not at the receiving end of the decisions made by the council, but have a voice.
How does the council support innovation in agriculture?
AYWB interim board consists of individuals with different expertise who aim to work together to make agricultural practices efficient. There are members from the industrial engineering sector, agricultural sector, chemistry, and other sectors. These young minds together with the AYWB members will ensure there is the sharing and implementation of new ideas.
